more from our week in Ukraine

Here are more photos and details from the rest of our week in Ukraine...
sweet angel

These photos are from the therapy demonstrations we did on Wednesday. The caregivers told us this little girl cried all of the time, but after a little swinging in the lycra swing, she did great!

Carmen demonstrating different ways to use the flashcards she made. She worked so hard to get them all translated into Russian.

Demonstrating massage...he loved it!!

Here are photos from our visit to the hospital. We were told this regional hospital serves northern Ukraine. We went to the hospital thinking we would just do some observation and visit with some of the children, but we ended up working there all day, which was a blessing for us! The nurses and doctors said they were expecting a more "mature" looking group based on seeing our resumes and degrees, but they warmed up to us quickly.

Our first stop was the NICU where we were able to demonstrate positioning and swaddling techniques. We were able to give them a lot of positioning equipment thanks to all of the donations we received prior to our trip. They were very appreciative of this equipment.

We also worked in their rehabilitation room for several hours. Several parents and therapists brought children to us to show them different therapy techniques and to cast a few kids for braces.

We then went to the orphan ward and held all of the babies and played with a few older children.

Here is a photo of one of the stairwells in the hospital...

Demonstrating swaddling with a little boy with Downs Syndrome in the orphan ward. It helped that I've swaddled Norah over a hundred times!

Here we are with some of the doctors in the orphan ward

At the end of our week, we took the 15 hour train ride (an experience in and of itself) to Kyiv where we spent the day sightseeing before catching our flight home.
Dresses for Myrah and Norah that we bought in the market
Getting ready to board the train...waiting in the rain and snow!

And last but not least, the scary internet cafe. We braved it a few times so we could email home :)
